Slant top desk locks and has four additional drawers that pull out below. Inside slant top there are numerous small drawers and cubby holes. The bookshelf top has blind doors with three shelves. This beautiful piece of handmade furniture measures 77" tall, 39" wide and 20" deep. It is approximately 30 - 40 years old. I just purchased a rope twist Willet chair set. It had several layers of upholstery which I removed to reveal what I believe is the original upholstery in good used condition with some minor spots. Can anyone verify for me what the original should look like? This is a golden colored satin type upholstery with yellow and green floral pattern stitched in a satiny thread that resembles a fluer-de-lis. Very pretty, but impractical for my family. A friend of mine as a old Hutch that that sits against the wall, and has a small table protruding from it with two table legs for support. The table pulls out and expands to seat approx 8-10 people. Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist and writer living in Seattle, Washington who is currently doing research for a book on women's Dear John/breakup letters. I have 16 years of clinical experience working with our Nation's Veterans and have become interested in writing about women's experiences while warriors are away. A "Dear John" letter is commonly used term to describe letters from a woman to a man in the military in which she is ending a relationship. The expression was likely invented during the Second World War and is still widely used today. I am interested in interviewing women of all ages who have decided to end a relationship in this way. I believe that there are many untold reasons why "Dear John" letters are sent and I would like to gain a better understanding and offer a more compassionate well-rounded picture of the women who found themselves writing "Dear John…." I will be traveling to Louisville to conduct these interviews next month. The interviews should take approximately one hour of time. The interviews can range from strictly confidential and anonymous, to using identifiers (names, photos, etc). The choice is completely up to the participants and will be totally respected and honored by myself and the publisher. There is a very interesting event that's taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00PM at the Cathedral of the Assumption - 433 S. Fifth St. It's free and open to the public. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Interfaith Relations and Carmichael's Bookstore. Bruce Feiler will be discussing his book, "Where God Was Born," which made it to #10 on the NY Times bestseller list. Feiler's newest book, Where God Was Born: A Personal Journey to the Roots of Religion describes his year-long trek retracing the Bible through the frontlines of Israel, Iraq, and Iran. "Bruce Feiler is a real-life Indiana Jones," wrote the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Excellent," said the Washington Post. "Feiler's careful writing and sweeping histories of the region provide compelling reading." Bruce writes for numerous publications and is a contributing editor for "Gourmet" and "Parade" as well as NPR and CNN. His book, "Abraham" was featured on the cover of Time magazine, has been translated into ffiteen languages and is the subject of a children's book and a photography book. I am seeking information about Jefferson Slide Tables as I was given one & know nothing about them. Mine looks like the bottom of a hutch when closed. Have a Willett dining set(table, 4 chairs, 2 arm chairs) with buffet which was my mother's. Unusual modernistic style with brushed silver hardware. The buffet is low and long. The table legs taper--narrow at the top, wider at the bottom-- and finnished at the foot with a ring of brushed silver. All are beautiful cherry wood. Do any of you out there know about his style, that is apparently very different than the bulk of Willett. I am looking to learn more and ultimately I would love to find someome who could appreciate the craftsmanship to give it a home.
