View of the Southern
Exposition from Central Park, 1883
The Southern Exposition, originally scheduled to last about two months, was such a success (in those first couple of months, there were well over 700,000 paid admissions) that the expo was extended. It closed four years later in 1887. This view shows the south entrance of the Exposition seen from Central Park. (Enlargement)
