Notes. There was a small African American community near the corner of 2nd and Magnolia since at least the early 1880s. There was a row (9-10) of residences on the opposite side of 2nd just south of Magnolia as well as others on the block. Mr. Newcomb's address disappeared after 1906, and we assume it may have been a relatively small house that was once located in the gap between the modern 1391 and 1393.
