banker/capitalist, president of Churchill Downs 1928-1937, Chairman of Board 1937-1948. Conceived & commissioned the first Garland of Roses for the Kentucky Derby in 1931/2. Sons were the "Two Little Knights of Kentucky" in the Little Colonel Stories. |

This Culbertson Mansion (there are other family homes in Old Louisville and Southern Indiana) still contains some original furnishings and a collection of artifacts and mementos of the Kentucky Derby, the Little Colonel and the illustrious brother-in-law, General Henry Ware Lawton of Indian and Spanish American War fame.
