A Window into America's Past
Vintage Post Card Greetings from Louisville

The Seelbach Lobby
"Lobby
The Seelbach, Louisville, Ky."
ca. 1910

Showing the furniture tastes of the time, the Seelbach Lobby was full of oversize velvet chairs and sofas (no doubt, stuffed with the best horse hair).  The old marble registration desk, spanning the entire width of the lobby has been replaced by a smaller desk to allow access to areas built later behind the lobby.  At one time, in an attempt to modernize, the frescos depicting events in Kentucky history were painted over.  These have since been restored.  The entrance to the former Main Dining Room (the area now known as the "Old Seelbach Bar") can be seen in the background.
