This
1910 view is of the predecessor to the present ca1930 Central
Presbyterian Church at the same location. There were once five Presbyterian Churches in the neighborhood.
Of the others, the Stuart Robinson Memorial
Presbyterian Church at Sixth and Magnolia, built in 1891, is now a private home,
the church at First and Ormsby now belongs to another denomination, the Warren
Memorial at 4th and Broadway and the Second Presbyterian Church at 2nd and
Broadway were demolished in the late
1950s.
The
city has long been a stronghold of the Presbyterian Church.
Today, Louisville is the headquarters of the Presbyterian
Church, USA.
