The Old Post Office and Customs House

Louisville's most monumental building had stood vacant for a decade when it was demolished in 1942-3 for a cost of $100. No use could be found for it after it had been decommissioned in 1933. It was considered to be nothing more than a pigeon roost. It's 4,500 tons of steel, copper, brass bronze and lead were given for the war effort.
